Who is Kris, the Rider?

A woman named Kris Greffard poses next to her motorcycle, packed and ready to go.

I grew up on motorcycles- primarily sitting on the gas tank or falling asleep on the back. I didn’t start riding until I was 20 when I bought my first bike, a 1998 Kawasaki ZX6R. I passed my class 6 and learned how to ride fast in a straight line.

I became a Police Officer at 24 and was assigned to the traffic section when I was 29. It was a humbling experience going from my “crotch rocket” to an 1100 lb Victory Cross Country. That bike ate me up and spat me out over the 2-week Police motorcycle cycle course. I have never been more beaten and bruised. Eventually I had a light bulb moment, stopped fighting the bike, and learned how to dance on that machine. Riding fast was easy but learning how to ride slow speed with finesse- that takes skill! Within a year I had traded in my off duty Ninja for a Victory.

At 30 I became an escort rider. As the lone female on a team of 10 guys, I had to bring my “A” game to be welcomed, respected, and trusted. I learned the importance of discipline and precision. My safety relies on my colleagues equally as theirs does to me. Highlight thus far- being the escort for the Duke and Duchess in 2016. Escort is by far one of the most fun and exhilarating perks of my profession but equally the most dangerous.

At 34 I was invited on a 3 night ride with a group of police women who rode together off duty. My first thought: 8 alpha women-this should be entertaining! Was I ever wrong! The trip was EPIC! The ride was great but the connection we shared was unforgettable. These women have become some of my closest friends and are far more than a riding group, but ladies who support, encourage, and inspire one another in all facets of life. Although our lives are busy- we still try and connect for our annual girls adventure.

At 36 I was exposed to the world of adventure riding. I was cross trained on the Suzuki V Strom and became proficient at slow maneuvers on and off road. I fell in love with the versatility of Adventure Tour bikes and bought a 1000XT Adventure. This bike took me on long distance rides, back road adventures, and introduced me to motorcycle camping. The V Strom is comfortable, light, nimble, and offers a ton of luggage space.

My current rides: 2023 V Strom 1050DE, 2025 Indian Scout Bobber, and 2025 CF Moto Ibex 450
Riding has had a massive impact on my confidence, independence, and social network. It has allowed me to go places I’ve never seen before (on and off road) and do things I likely would never have had the opportunity to do. Riding has provided me an outlet, wind therapy. “Gale” has never let me down.

Knowing what riding had brought to my quality of life and the amazing people that I am surrounded by a result- Why wouldn’t I want to share that with other riders?
